PHILOSOPHY
The Department of Management is committed to educating and preparing both men and women for national and international managerial challenges, as well as the prospect of church leaders. It is determined to provide students with appropriate managerial skills suitable for modern technology environment which enables them to make adequate scientific decisions.
As per the Doctrine of “Caveat Emptor” which says “Buyer beware…” this Department challenges current and prospective students to be aware of the ever changing business environment, and to consequently take appropriate measures in due course.
OBJECTIVES
The Department of Management has these objectives for the business student:
- To prepare students to be academically fit for graduate studies and professional bodies such as MBA, CIS, IPM, and IM.
- To develop students managerial skills which enables them to meet the organisational challenges future careers?
- To create a sense of managerial responsibility and accountability in the mind of students.
- To help students to harmonise business ethics and Christian values.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Management provides well balanced and competent human resources to take up careers in organizations; specifically, as administrators, managers, leaders, marketing professionals, businessmen, entrepreneurs to all sectors of the economy namely business, government, and non-profit organizations. The major concern of the Department is to produce thinkers, innovators, leaders and doers.
CARRIER OPPORTUNITIES
In modern society, individuals such as restaurant managers, production managers, production managers, marketing managers, shop managers, executive managers, deans, superintendents, ship captains, general managers, strategic managers to name but a few, do important work. These individuals may work in different organizations with different goals, but they all have one characteristic in common: they practice management.
Our society and economy as a whole depend on the goals and services provided by organizations which are managed by individuals with managerial skills. The training of sufficient managers in crucial in terms of a country’s growth and wealth, especially in our society where there is a critical shortage of people with managerial skills.
- The specialized degree is suitable for students who want to follow careers in any sector of the economy as functional managers, general managers or executive managers.
- Professionals such as engineers, accountants, medical practitioners and lawyers need managerial skills to manage or make progress in their respective companies or practices.
- The degree will also enable graduates to work as business management consultants or to manage their own companies as entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs
DEGREES OFFERED
Students in the Department are required to choose a Major either in Business Management or Marketing:
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Business Management.
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing.
- Minor in Business Management.
- Minor in Marketing.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to meeting normal University Admission requirements, students who wish to major in any of the programmes in the Department are expected to have passed English and Mathematics at O-level or A-level with at least a C or better grade. Students who have accounting and business studies in their O/A-level program have an added advantage.
The Faculty of Business does accept a limited number of students based on the Mature Age Exemption, and/or professional qualification and related work experience. Generally the number of such students shall not exceed two percent of the total student enrollment in the Faculty of Business on a given year.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for graduation, students must have successfully completed the required number of credits:
